I drank my coffee this morning poring over the many-times-turned pages my The French Laundry Cookbook by Thomas Keller. Who knew pasta could be al dente and melt in your mouth at the same time? One of the best chefs in America, he also owns restaurants like “The French Laundry”, “Bouchon”, “Bouchon Bakery” and “Per Se”. Last week he posted about some of his favorite cookbooks— oh, don't tell me, you say, The French Laundry Cookbook and The Zuñi Cafe Cookbook and all the other obvious influences of the moment. The French Laundry Cookbook suggests juicing 3 pounds of carrots for the ginger-carrot emulsion, but I don't have a juicer. Thomas Keller is a god among chefs, in my opinion. All I can say is that I suddenly feel that my life cannot be complete with a chinois and a tamis. Come to find out the package was from Todd and Diane . Almost 10 years ago, a friend gave me for Christmas the French Laundry cookbook. Signature Coffee and Doughnuts (mignardise) (one of several treats at the end of the meal not even listed in the nine courses on the menu). Took an article in the recent Vogue and Entertaining Travel to get me started on making it. I have been eyeing the famous Lemon Tart recipe from the French Laundry cookbook, for a while. I think that it's safe to say that The French Laundry Cookbook changed the way modern cookbooks are written. I now owe them my first and second born child for all the help, encouragement, and one French Laundry cookbook they have given me. I finally starting flipping through the French Laundry cookbook that my dear friend M got me for my birthday. I'd gotten super enriched yolk type of eggs (without intending to) and it gave the rich colour to the pasta. While out shopping this weekend I came across Thomas Keller's famed French Laundry cookbook and Ad Hoc At Home.
